The Center for Innovation in Intelligence and Data Technology (CIDAI) organizes the presentation of the results of a high-impact project developed by Eurecat in collaboration with the Red Cross, focused on the application of artificial intelligence in emergency and crisis contexts.
This project aims to co-design, develop and validate a proof of concept of a conversational assistant based on generative AI, designed to offer psychological first aid in traumatic situations and natural disasters.
Initially, the solution was conceived as a complementary tool to professional psychosocial support teams, especially in scenarios where human attention channels may be overwhelmed or when certain groups opt for digital channels.
However, the development of the project has opened up new avenues of application, especially in the field of education and training of professionals who intervene directly with people affected by emergencies.
Throughout the project, the phases, experience, protocols, and resources specific to psychosocial intervention have been integrated into the system to guarantee a safe, structured interaction aligned with professional standards, ethics, and the principles of emergency intervention. Furthermore, strict control mechanisms (guardrails) have been defined to ensure that the assistant’s behavior remains within the limits established by the care protocols.
The session will provide firsthand insight into the project’s results and open a space for reflection on the role of generative AI in the social and emergency sectors, as well as its potential benefits and the challenges it presents.
