In today’s world, technological advances and significant social transformations necessitate a shift in the approach to education, placing it at the centre of societal progress and positive evolution. Educating without understanding the context of new generations and their demand for new skills is no longer viable. In this regard, AI-based technologies have great potential to help transform the educational model.
Therefore, there is a need to develop a White Paper that addresses these needs, identifies actions, and leverages opportunities to promote and encourage the adoption and incorporation of AI into the education sector in Catalonia.
Catalan is a Romance language spoken in Catalonia, the Valencian Country (except for some inland regions), the Balearic Islands, Andorra, the Aragon Strip, the city of L’Alguer (on the island of Sardinia), Northern Catalonia, El Carxe (Murcia), and in small communities throughout the world. Currently, it spans a territory of about 68,730 km², inhabited by 13,740,000 people across four states: Andorra, Spain, France and Italy. In this White Paper, it is considered important to address the field of the Catalan language and AI, focusing on its current situation, the challenges, barriers, and opportunities of AI-based technologies to enhance the Catalan language.
The purpose of this White Paper is to help towards promoting and fostering AI uptake and inclusion in the education sector and also to examine the importance of its applications for the Catalan language, looking at AI’s applicability in addressing the region’s main short- and medium-term challenges.
Addressed to:
This paper is aimed at companies, SMEs and operators working on projects in the education sector together with all professionals and members of the public interested in the applications of AI for the Catalan language.
