The congressAI & Big Data Congresswill address this September in Barcelona the new challenges, trends and best practices of pioneering companies in the field of Artificial Intelligence, a technology that is estimated to generate an additional increase of 15.7 trillion dollars in global GDP in 2030, according to data collected in the report “Analysis of specialization in artificial intelligence in Catalonia“.
Featuring over 60 presentations, the congress is to gather more than seventy experts and cutting-edge initiatives in Artificial Intelligence and data analytics. The aim is to “bring to the table the potential and challenges for business uptake, talent attraction and retention and the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence along with representative use cases in diverse sectors such as health and wellness, Industry 4.0, mobility, energy and sustainability,” says Congress director Joan Mas, also the director of the Centre of Innovation for Data tech and Artificial Intelligence (CIDAI), which is organising the event, and the Eurecat technology centre’s Digital Division.
The official welcome will be given by Daniel Marco, Director General for Innovation and the Digital Economy in the Government of Catalonia, Michael Donaldson, Chief Technology Officer and CIO at Barcelona City Council, and Xavier Torra, chair of Eurecat.
The AI & Big Data Congress will feature an opening keynote by Procore’s Vice President of Product, International Markets and Globalization, Anna N. Schlegel, recognized as the world’s most influential woman in the field of technology by Analytics Insight magazine, in which she will present her vision on business and technology strategy in the era of Artificial Intelligence, as well as the latest trends developing in Silicon Valley.
Cristian Canton, head of Facebook’s AI Red Team specialising in discovering, understanding and mitigating potential threats posed to businesses using Artificial Intelligence, will talk about abuses and misuses of this technology and how to prevent them. The congress will also feature presentations by experts from CIDAI and leading organisations and companies.
Parallel sector sessions
The programme additionally includes parallel sessions in which experts in areas such as Industry 4.0, mobility, energy and sustainability, agri-food and the cultural and creative industries will outline successful benchmark proofs of concept.

The AI & Big Data Congress is an event organised by CIDAI and coordinated by Eurecat. It is sponsored by the Government of Catalonia, Barcelona City Council, the SDG Group, Microsoft, everis, an NTT DATA Company, and CaixaBank. The congress will be held on 14 September in person at the AXA Barcelona Auditorium and will also be streamed. On 15 September it will be held exclusively online.
