Assistive robotics has the potential to change our lives, for example by enabling us to live independently at home for longer. We will look at what technology does not yet exist and how to design new robots to do their job efficiently and safely while meeting everyone’s needs. We will discuss some ongoing projects exemplifying best practices and unpack the opportunity that is opening up to generate new lines of business.

Programa
- What assistive robotics is and what its potential is.
- How we can be critical of current approaches.
- Which technologies we need that are really essential:
- User models.
- Learning and personalisation.
- Information organisation and explainability.
- Opportunities and challenges.
Masterclass given by the IRRI and the Government of Catalonia

Taught by:
Guillem Alenyà
Director of the Institute of Robotics and Industrial Informatics (IRI CSIC-UPC)
Guillem is an expert in assistive robotics, focused on tasks that involve contact between robots and people, and in textile handling. His research mainly concerns machine learning for adapting and customising the behaviour of robots to meet the needs of the people they help.
