The energy sector plays a crucial role in the global economy as shown by recent geopolitical events. It is essential to lessen the energy reliance of specific regions, mitigate the environmental impact of fossil fuels and ensure an optimised, sustainable and secure transition to cleaner and renewable energy sources.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data-driven technologies are pivotal tools in transforming and optimising energy production, management and use. These technologies are particularly important for orchestrating the new energy paradigm which encompasses energy decentralisation, consumer empowerment and electrification.

The purpose of this white paper is to set out the main results of the analysis of the application of AI in the energy industry. The study has been conducted to promote and foster the uptake and inclusion of AI in various energy processes: including generation, transport and distribution, commercialization, consumption, and storage.

The paper examines the applicability of AI in addressing the sector’s main short- and medium-term challenges.

Addressed to:

This paper is intended for companies, SMEs and organisations working on projects in the energy industry.
