In a field like artificial intelligence, rapidly evolving and with multiple cross-cutting applications, semantic analyses, like the one in this report, They provide differential indicators and information of value for public policy managers.

Based on Cordis data for Horizon 2020 research and innovation projects and data from RIS3CAT projects, This report has three main objectives:

    • Identify and analyze the main actors in Catalonia who conduct research and innovation in the field of artificial intelligence, their collaboration networks and areas of specialization.
    • Analyze the relative positioning of Catalonia in relation to the leading regions in Europe and the collaboration networks of Catalan actors in the EU.
    • Understand how artificial intelligence contributes to addressing societal (SDGs) and industry challenges.

The analysis carried out positions Catalonia as a leading region in artificial intelligence in Europe, with the capacity to attract a high volume of competitive European funds, especially in innovation projects in SMEs and the application of artificial intelligence to societal challenges. On the other hand, Catalonia is slightly less active, in relative terms, in basic or more advanced research projects., which are crucial for driving more radical innovations at the frontier of knowledge.

In the analysis it is highlights the large number of innovation and application projects of artificial intelligence in the priority areas of RIS3CAT, especially in health, industrial systems, energy and resources, sustainable mobility and cultural and experience-based industries. Many of these projects also contribute to the SDGs and have the potential to be replicated and scaled up and become a driver for the digital and green transition of the Catalan economy.

In this session, will present the methodology and results of the report.
