Aina Hack was held in person for 24 hours non-stop

The participating teams developed an AI application to solve one or more challenges of the Catalan Government, implementing architectures, demonstrators, proofs of concept or MVPs (Minimum Viable Product).

The common feature of all these cases was using components of the Aina Kit, developed as part of the Aina Project to drive the use of Catalan in the digital realm.

Aina Hack is promoted by the Government of Catalonia (Secretariat for Digital Policies and Secretariat for Telecommunications and Digital Transformation), organised by the Barcelona Supercomputing Center – National Supercomputing Centre (BSC-CNS) and Eurecat, and with the backing of the Centre for Telecommunications and Information Technologies of the Government of Catalonia (CTTI), CIDAI, i2CAT Foundation, Google Cloud, Microsoft and NTT DATA.

The Challenges

Each team’s idea has to solve one or more of the following challenges:

Simplification and accessibility of administrative information

Make administrative information easier to understand and access for all members of the public.

Virtual assistance and automation of digital services

Enhance the user experience in digital services and automate repetitive administrative processes.

Inclusion of Catalan dialects in digital services

Improve the accessibility of the government's digital services by factoring in the linguistic and cultural diversity of the territory.

Personalisation of content for the public

Create personalised content and experiences for people, improving their interaction with public administration.

How can you take part in Aina Hack?

Read the instructions carefully and pay special attention to the participation rules.

1. Set up your team

From 2 to 4 members. Companies can register their own teams. We recommend that most of the team members should have technical skills to take part in the competition.

What is Aina Hack?

It is a 24-hour non-stop competition in person in which the participating teams have to develop an AI application to solve one or more challenges of the Catalan Government, including implementing architectures, demonstrators, proofs of concept or MVPs (Minimum Viable Product). To do this, they will have to use components generated under the Aina Project.

What is the Aina Kit?

This is the collection of documentation and resources, such as language models and datasets, which the Aina Project makes available to developers of artificial intelligence and language technology products and services in Catalan.

Where and when is Aina Hack held?

Venue: Espai Bital (C. de José Agustín Goytisolo, 22-28, 08908 L’Hospitalet de Llobregat).

Schedule: From Friday 8 November at 4 pm until Saturday, 9 November at 4 pm. The presentations to the jury will then begin.

Who is it for?

Teams of 2 to 4 people, made up of experts in artificial intelligence or data science, UX/UI developers, programmers, etc.

Participants must be over 18 years of age and have a valid ID card or passport or another document which proves their identity and age under Spanish law. See point 4 of the rules for more information.

Can I register as an individual team?

Can I make up a team with employees from my company?

Yes, companies can register participants in the competition.

I registered and in the end I can't attend. Can I take part remotely?

No, the participation of the entire team must be in person.

How can I confirm that I am registered for Aina Hack?

To find out whether you have registered correctly, you will get an email at your email address with confirmation of registration. Registration for Aina Hack does not confirm participation.

How will I know if my team's participation in Aina Hack has been confirmed?

The Aina Hack organisers will send an email to the entire team either confirming participation or rejecting it.

What do I need to take part?

Everything you consider essential for the 24 hours of the competition: screen, laptop, keyboard, mouse, etc.

What do the Aina Hack organisers offer?

The organisers will offer participating teams:

Connectivity: WI-FI and Ethernet
3 light points per participant
Meals and drinks over the 24 hours of the competition (non-energy or non-alcoholic)
Rest area

I can't be there at 4 pm on Friday, 8 November. Can I arrive later?

At least 1 team member must be present at 4 pm on Friday, 8 November. The rest of the team can join later depending on their availability.

Can I come to the Aina Hack site by car? Will I have a parking space?

Yes, you can specify on the form that your team will need a parking space. One parking space will be available per team.

Can I leave Aina Hack for a few hours and come back later?

Yes, if absolutely necessary, but there must always be at least 1 participant from the team in the Espai Bital.

Does Aina Hack have any prizes?

There will be two winning teams. The first will receive €4,000 and the second €2,000.

The financial amount of the prizes will be subject to withholding as per tax regulations.

Who will be on the jury?

The jury will be made up of representatives of the promoting, organising and partner entities.
